This week we have been working on screen print and foil block as they have pretty similar processes when preparing the screens. We had to expose two different types of screen because for foil blocking you need silkscreen that is less fine so that the glue can get through.

After we washed, put the emulsion on and exposed the screens we started on our foil blocking. They had run out of the usual glue that is used for this so we used flock instead, so once again we had to wear the oh so stylish and comfortable mask, gloves and goggles. It didn't take long for the glue to dry so went pretty much straight on to the heat press.

We had a small induction on the heat press so that we knew what setting to put it on and for how long (we were told for paper, 150 degrees for 12 seconds). This process was so simple and its really satisfying peeling away the foil to reveal your design underneath.

We then moved on to screen printing. For this we used the same designs but using black and a nice burgundy colour that we mixed up. Unfortunately though we ran out of time and only had time to print the black for now so we'll have to carry on after the weekend.
